Last week, UPS and the Contact Committee were on the first study visit of the semester. The academic year began with a double visit to Stockholm. The day began at the green and liberal think tank Fores. Hedvig Heijne introduced Fores and their work, and then followed presentations by the various think tank project groups. The focus of the project groups varies from economic policy to IT and all areas are managed from a climate perspective. Fores describes himself as a party politically independent and attaches great importance to research as a foundation for political decisions. The stay at Fores contained both good information about their work and instructive substantive political discussions.
The afternoon’s study visit was at Arena Idea, a think tank belonging to the Arenagruppen. The host of the group there was Lisa Pelling who gave an exciting lecture on Arena Idea’s structure and approach as a political opinion maker. Arena Idea is described as a think tank where the employee perspective is always at the center and where political impartiality creates a breeding ground for scientific research. Lisa Pelling herself is a prominent profile in the think tank and is rarely seen in TV4 morning news and other media channels where she argues for the research that Arena idea is involved in.
The study visits were both rewarding and inspiring. The Contact Committee is planning more study visits, keep an eye on facebook and here on the website, more information will be coming soon!
